The invite-only, high-end credit card that everyone wants.
For the affluent consumer, a high-end credit card is a must-have, especially in recent years. Not only do high-end credit cardholders receive the same perks as any credit card user, but they also have access to many exclusive advantages like special events, concierge services, travel bonuses, and rewards. American Express, commonly referred to as Amex, is one of the leading credit card companies in the world.
About American Express
American Express has been a global institution since 1850, dedicated to making a difference in their customer’s lives. In 1850, American Express emerged as a freight forwarding company and quickly earned a reputation as a trustworthy company that transported their customers’ valuable possessions.
Then, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, American Express began introducing new financial products and travel services, supporting their customers’ needs. Since then, the company has developed into a credit card company that not only helps customers get what they need, they have also developed programs that help them get around, with loyalty programs for travel.
Don’t take our word for it. Here are some statistics that American Express prides itself in:

HOW TO GET A CENTURION CARD
Formerly known as the Amex Black Card, the Centurion Card is an invite-only card offered only to the most wealthy American Express users. This very well may be the most exclusive credit card out there for the highest spenders around the world and, frankly, is quite mysterious. This card is associated with a high status. The average Centurion holder needs to spend around $250,000 to $500,000 a year just to be invited. An initiation fee sits around $7,500 and the annual fee is $2,500.
There are many rumors surrounding this card, and many may not know what it holds until invited. Many have reported earning 1 point per dollar spent on all purchases. While one point does not seem like a lot, the points are much more valuable than standard credit card points. Delta airlines give Centurion cardholders automatic Platinum status which gives travelers extensive upgrades and free companion tickets when the first ticket is bought at full price. Cardholders also get access to Delta airport lounges. This may not mean much to some cardmembers since these high-net-worth individuals often fly privately.
The Centurion Card comes in both a business card and personal card. The corporate Amex Centurion card has different qualifications. Not only will it take a lot of spending to receive an invitation, but once invited, cardmembers will have to spend at least $10,000 to get the card. When you are invited to be a cardmember and accept, there are numerous fees that you will be responsible for, as found in all high-end credit cards.
Here are what many have reported to be the fees associated with the card.
- Initiation Fee: $5,000 – $7,500
- Annual Fee: $2,500
- Authorized Users: $2,500 each
Authorized users can also be given Amex Platinum or Gold cards instead.
While there are better high-end credit cards out there looking to get great travel perks, the Centurion Card is definitely one of the rarest and most expensive cards around, making it coveted by many. While it may seem hard to get your hands on one, it’s not impossible, especially with the help of a skilled financial advisor. As noted previously, the Amex Centurion Card is invite-only. While there is no written proof published by American Express stating how to get an invite, it is generally understood that it is a card for wealthy individuals who spend a lot.
Many publications have found that in order to be invited, an individual must meet the following requirements:
- Be an American Express cardholder for at least one year
- Spend at least $100,000 – $450,000 a year
- Earn at least $1 million annually
- Have a high net worth
It should go without saying that a cardmember will also want a high credit score.
There are some cases where there have been exceptions to the rule, especially with professional athletes or celebrities. Many individuals who are not usually high spenders will sign a contract with a team or make a big break and will be offered a Centurion Card. American Express keeps an eye out for people of emerging stardom who may be qualified.
